Condition New - Aftermarket

Hello All ..Iwas assisting a shop when they installed a new power steering rack… I used ford j2534 tool fjds , and did an as built data . I had fjds get as built files automatically and it seemed to work with no errors. However when i tried clearing codes u2100, initial configuration not complete keeps coming back ..I cannot do a PMI cause i dont have the original steering rack…Has anyone run into this and if so,how did u resolve the problem..I had the shop confirm with ford that indeed it was the correct rack for the truck based by VIN…. ANYONE? much appreciated. identifix does not have any useful info to resolve this…

This is a reply from an experimental AI-powered advisor. It is important to exercise caution, verify information from multiple sources, and make informed decisions based on the prevailing circ*mstances.

The U2100 code indicates an issue with the initial configuration not being complete after installing a new Power Steering Control Module (PSCM). Since you mentioned that you cannot perform a Parameter Reset or Module Initialization (PMI) due to not having the original steering rack, you'll need to ensure that the new PSCM is correctly programmed. Here are a few steps you can take: - Verify…

I believe you just need to run learn procedure after that. I done a few, and that was it.

I missed the part where you said you didn't do PMI.. Do PMI, you don't need old rack. Take it for a drive after that.

Ok I see but honestly I never use the old ones I just install the new one and do a PMI and I’ve never had issues…. But honestly I’m not familiar with fjds I use the ids and on with that I don’t need the old one.

Only other thing I’d suggest that I always do when I’m doing used modules and they give me issues is to redo the as built but manually

Ok if it’s new I’d say scan tool issue because I never need the old racks when I’m programming a brand new rack on these

I lliterally fought same code today, and got the win at the last minute without the original ABS module being necessary to program via PMI…careful selection of exact function in FJDS under PMI but i would have to review screenshots to demonstrate or explain precisely which step i did differently to win…will aadviseI almost scheduled a return visit to repeat attempt but kept trying. Voltages…

Your post says aftermarket. Is the rack aftermarket? If so its likely junk. If IDS doesn't resolve it then likely needs new rack from dealer.

Need to do a IVD (Interactive Vehicle Dynamics) Calibration/Initialization if I recall correctly. What scan tools do you have?

Kris - I believe that is for the ABS - the module configuration sheet doesn't show any adaptive learning or calibration necessary for the PSCM

Mark - You must complete the PMI procedure - there is more than just as built data to be done.

Why the heck are shops so quick to return cores? Everyone by now should know that occasionally the old module is necessary, or at least cuts the time down substantially when programming is necessary. In Michigan, the customer is entitled to look at any part, including cores. Wait until the job is completed and repairs are verified before returning any cores or parts.

Great advice, and I agree that it would be nice to do so. But, when the core charge is in excess of several hundred dollars in many cases, most small shops return it immediately. In any case, with the correct tooling this issue almost never arises.I would attempt to reset the SAS and torque sensor on this before going any further.FJDS was designed mostly for powertrain and not…

Never used FJDS, but with IDS if the module has a U2100 set the tool will do PMI just fine. IDS sees U2100 as “new module, never programmed” and pulls all info it needs from the Ford servers.

Hi Mark, just start new IDS-FJDS session with PSCM unplug but you need to delete old session first because if you restart session IDS see than you have session with same VIN,after session ok replug PSCM start PMI the software just check but no info from PSCM and after a moment it ask if you if you want than check online for calibration and as-built clic ok ,good luck.
