This well-known attraction exhibits 100+ mummified bodies, along with an explanatory video.
First time visiting. Very interesting. Worth the trip. A long line on Sunday, super crowded and a long wait to purchase tickets and enter. Group tours led by a guide. Too many people to fit in each salon and it was hard to hear the guide. Also, as a non native speaker it was extremely difficult to understand all the complex aspects of the tour/museum/mummies. However it was still very interesting and memorable.

Very illustrative museum in which very few natural mummies are kept since they are not prepared and embalmed, they were preserved this way due to the type of land and climate. What I didn't like was the super line and long wait to get to the ticket office and where there are two windows, only one person attends, alternating with great laziness and very bad information.

Less than $5 for entry. Plan on spending 30 minutes to view the entire museum. TheMummies of Guanajuatoare a number of naturallymummifiedbodies interred during acholeraoutbreak in Guanajuatoin 1833. The human bodies appear to have been disinterred between 1870 and 1958. During that time, a local tax was in place requiring a fee to be paid for "perpetual" burial. Some bodies for which the tax was not paid were disinterred, and some—apparently those in the best condition—were stored in a nearby building. The climate of Guanajuato provides an environment which can lead to a type of natural mummification, although scientific studies later revealed that some bodies had been at least partiallyembalmed. While a bit creepy, I enjoyed learning about the history of the mummy collection (100+) and the history of the area.

Very informative, is a short visit, bring exact change is better. There's a tour outside that offers 3 hrs tours bt in reality is 5-6 hrs & tours mostly are to take you to businesses to buy their goods.

Very cool place! Learn so much about the history of Mexico. While tours are not available in English, the Spanish tour guide was very detailed and would be happy to answer any questions. The guide was free in Spanish. Cool place and really gets you thinking of the history the city has.

Sus callejones increíbles, recordación ir con zapatos cómodo y si quieren disfrutar de un caminar placentero.(Translated by Google)The entrance was very fast and the atmosphere is pleasant in the museum. It is magnificent how they have cared for the mummies and their display cases so that they do not touch each other. Personally, I liked it. I went in the company of friends and we enjoyed the visit. Its incredible alleys, remember to go with comfortable shoes and if you want to enjoy a pleasant walk.

The scenic drive to the top of the mtns was a site to behold. The rock/brick paved roads added charm and uniqueness to the climbing narrow streets. Visit the caverns, and Alley of the kiss while you're closely in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Super intense creepy yet oddly compelling. The dear little mummy babies are so moving & sad yet it's impossible not to feel fascinated. A fantastic museum.

We went on a Saturday at 5:30 pm, it was close to closing. There were few people and we were able to enjoy the museum more peacefully. The guide we had was very kind, without him we would have missed a large part of the stories of the mummies.

The museum does not encourage the level of respect these human bodies deserve. The parents of little children should encourage them to behave appropriately. These are not haloween dolls. The coffin at the end of the exhibit for taking fun pictures with the Instagram hashtag should be removed. Otherwise, it is a once in a life experience that brings you closer to the true nature of human existence.

Folks over 65 get discount as long as they show their special ID. The museum takes you through what feels like tunnels although it's more like dark walkways painted black/brown. The mummies were fascinating although you have to remember they're not like African Mummies where they have been prepared for death as a true mummy. These bodies were conserved by weather and burial conditions. With that in mind, the museum did a good job of look at death in a less scary way and to appreciate life. Some bodies had backstories which was cool. Some bodies still have hair and teeth. Some bodies are naked so if you're squeamish or overly conservative or don't want your children to see the decaying naked body, than perhaps this museum is not for you. Our group of 8 had a good time ages range from retired to middle school-aged. Cute little shops outside. No bathrooms I side the museum, make sure to go before you go in. Also no food, candy or drinks allowed inside. There's an additional fee if you want to take pictures.

The tour was very fast that it joined the next one, I don't know that I understood much because there were several people who were on the tour and then they couldn't see, although the little that I managed to hear was interesting. The other museum is entertaining but still small. I recommend going early because the place where it is is somewhat dangerous.

Exploitative. While the mummies are kept in a climate controlled environment, their preservation is suspect. These PEOPLE are being displayed as curiosities, propped upright with limbs sometimes reattached with tape (incorrectly) to be viewed. If an individual or family could not pay for burial services for the years required (a tax in place until 1958), remains were exhumed and if naturally mummified by the conditions, were added to the collection for display. Which means that there are potentially people alive today, whose relative is on display at this museum.Do not buy the full package for $120 pesos. It includes an additional room that is meant to be ‘scary.’ Here, bones are scattered and displayed as though the individual has been tortured, a so-called vampire has a stake through the heart, and a full skeleton is on display.A note for the museum, because I hope you see this. That skeleton is completely wrong. You have a cervical vertebrae in the lumbar region, the entire pelvis (the inominates and the sacrum) are upside down, one femur is upside down and they have been incorrectly sided, you have metatarsals as phalanges, and ulna and radius in place of a tibia and fibula and a fibula up with the humerus. It would take no time to fix this - and images of how to properly lay out a skeleton can be easily googled. This was a person. Have some respect.

If you wear your scientist hat, it is very interesting but the level of preservation can make this exhibit feel creepy. It makes me want to ensure that I'm cremated so that nobody digs up my corpse and displays it in a glass case.

It's a must-see when visiting Guanajuato, it gives an insight into the town's history, how bodies are naturally mummified due to the soil and weather conditions in the area, plus other factors. My only complain is with the people visiting, many kids and families go there thinking it's a spooky ride or haunted mansion, which it is not, so if you visit with kids please have some respect and let the tour guide speak instead of interrupting every time, these are real bodies, your level of respect sould be equal to when visiting a cemetery.

It is a place quite full of history and unknown data where you can go to appreciate the mummies to appreciate their mummification details as well as the stories of each individual and discover secrets of the past, learn about ancient traps and customs that were practiced previously, it is advisable to buy the ticket to take photos so you can take some good memories of people who once lived. It is also preferable to arrive about two hours before they close and during the week to be able to enjoy the place more without so many people.

I was deeply impressed by the condition of the corpses. It is a good place to meditate on and pray for the souls once occupying these bodies 🙏

I remember that as a girl it was an incredible place, but now that I went I felt that it needed more space. I felt like I was in the horror house at a fair. It is a very touristy place and the truth is that the price is a lot for the experience.

Very interesting historic place but after seeing a few of the mummies I was ok with going right past the rest of the exhibit. It’s one of those places that depends on the individual whether you would enjoy or be freaked out by it. I was somewhere in between and prayed for the souls of all those mummies that evening. But definitely was a must on my list of things to do when in Guanajuato and growing up always heard my family sharing stories of “las Momeas de Guanajuato” so had to see it and experience it for myself.

Visited the Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato. Interesting history on how the Mummies used to be displayed when they could be touched. Glad the current display protects them for future generations to appreciate.

I loved the museum, it is something you have to do at least once in your life if you live in Mexico, the only thing I gave it 4 stars for is because they did not accept my payment by card, they told me that they had the terminal charging Out there it was very good, the guide's explanation was excellent.

A must see. Guides available, take your time lots to look at. You can plan on spending an hour or so. Once inside.

It's ok. Small (which is fine). I'm sure it was only a few cents more to go to the second museum, but it was underwhelming. Instead of letting the bones and mummies stand on their own, they added a bunch of Halloween type stuff. Silly. I would have enjoyed it more had there been more stories or even just more descriptions of the years they were buried and exhumed. The cemetery behind is large and worth seeing if you haven't spent much time in Mexican cemeteries. Chaotic and interesting.

It is a decent size, all skeletons are incased and pictures are allowed. Guides ask for a tip at the end after you have paid for your entrance because they give you a guide through the museum.

Don’t want to spoil the museum too much so y’all get the experience. 4 stars because I feel is a bit short but the history is amazing and well explained. It’s more of a 1 time visit rather than multiple

Must visit this place being in Guanajuato. Mummies are scary and when you are looking on them you can feel dizzy. I would not recommend to go with too young children. However I am happy that we have chosen this place to visit during our trip to Mexico.
