February 2010 in Babies: 9 - 12 Months
For some reason, DS has been having a horrible time sleeping. We thought it was due to teething, but even after giving him Tylenol, etc he still couldn't sleep, and would just cry and cry and cry. He just wasn't tired, or at least didn't appear to be. In the last four days he's barely napped, and on two out of those four nights he was up all night, crying or just basically not sleeping until about 4am. Then he'd sleep for about four hours and then be awake as if he'd slept the whole night.
Help? Anyone have this happen? And if so, what was the reason? We're exhausted! It feels like he's a couple of weeks old all over again.

We went through this, and I wondered the same thing. DS was always a decent sleeper, mostly up once a night. But starting the week before he turned 7 months, up until a few days ago he was up every couple of hours. I figured it was teething. I think he's trying to get his top two teeth.

We had this happen about a month ago and it lasted about a week or a little more. DD just did not want to fall asleep at night and WOULD NOT nap! Well, I still don't know why it happened but it left as quickly as it showed up here. No known cause and no schedule changes or anything. Just hang in there! I willing to bet it gets better soon.

Yes, there's definitely something that goes on around this age. We are just recovering from something similar. It lasted 2-3 weeks for DD, although wasn't too bad for us. I think it's just all the milestones they hit around this age. It will pass - more quickly, I think, if he is used to putting himself back to sleep!

Yes, I think there is...though I am suspecting a growth spurt is the cause for DD's sudden wakefulness. She used to STTN most of the time. Now she wakes once (occasionally twice) and is starving. She practically grabs the bottle from me and gulps it up so fast! I keep trying to get her to eat more during the day--I've tried increasing her solids, reducing solids, increasing milk...nothing seems to help. I hope it passes soon but I do know the kid needs to grow!

I totally agree. DS has never been a good sleeper but the past two weeks he's been up about 7 - 8X per night! Tylenol and motrin did crap, thought it was teething, don't know since they are almost all the way in. Sooooooooooooooooo tired, hope it passes soon!
