1. Bishop Amat (1-0): Workmanlike victory over Valencia in home season opener. Bey and Franklin looked tremendous on film. Travel over the hill to take on La Habra in a OC road trip.

2. Ayala (1-0): Nice win on the road in San Diego over Torrey Pines. Defense played starring role in win. Home opener this week against Etiwanda. Class test!

3. La Serna (1-0): It wasn’t pretty, but the Lancers got the job done. Defense elevated its game in the second half. Tough assignment against Warren this week.

4. Charter Oak (0-0): The curtain is lifted on Thursday in a nice season opener on a Thursday against Northview at Covina District Field. Time to see if the defense is the real deal for the Chargers.

5. Pasadena (0-1): No shame in loss to La Serna. Look for the Bulldogs to be at full strength against a banged-up Glendora team. A team with great upside.

6. St. Paul (1-0): Sorry Swordsmen fans – I misjudged you prior to the season opener. Maushardt is showing that he is the real deal. The new favorites to win the Angelus.

7. Monrovia (1-0): First game in the post Noah Rodriguez era and the Wildcats pass with flying colors… with a little help from a spike. Time for a crosstown rival game against Arcadia.

8. La Mirada (1-0): Despite consistent personnel substitution problems, “The Fighting Moschetti’s” pick up an important win. Time to buckle up against a impressive Yorba Linda team.

9. Northview (1-0): It was ground and pound time in season opening win over Muir. Angel Barraza rushes for 117 yards in win. Now here comes big bad Charter Oak to CDF.

10. La Habra (0-1): Another tough loss to Upland, now they open the season against a very solid Amat team. Mazzotta knows how to win these types of games.

11. St. Francis (0-1): Golden Knights make West Ranch QB Staub look like Peyton Manning in one of the worst season opening losses in program history. Road trip to Mira Costa will be no walk in the park.

12. Glendora (0-1): Offense was stuck in neutral in loss to Chino Hills. If things don’t pick up this week against an angry Pasadena team, it could get ugly!

13. Damien (0-1): Tough to get a read on. Gave up 390+ total yards in loss to Yorba Linda. Time to hit the freeway for an intriguing game against Loyola.

14. Bonita (0-1): No shame in losing to a high regarding Monrovia team. Time to hit the bus for a trip to Nevada on Saturday night against Mater Academy East.

15. San Dimas (1-0): No frills here. A meat and potatoes win over Fullerton, and they should have no trouble with Lakewood on Friday.

16. Diamond Bar (1-0): The law firm of Lewis and Bernardino couldn’t have been more impressive in Castaneda’s first DBar win. Will be the favorites to beat Chino on Friday.

17. Baldwin Park (1-0): Drew Knight throws for 367 in win over Montebello. Don’t look for things to change any as the Braves host South El Monte. Calling for 400 yards passing from Knight this week.

18. West Covina (0-1): Typical Maggiore team. Starts the season with a quality loss to Alta Loma. Trust me when I tell you, this team will get better each week.

19. Muir (0-1): They have the athletes, but the offense needs to start rolling. Don’t be shocked if they go 0-2 after a loss to St. Pius X-St. Matthias. They are good!!!

20. Covina (0-0): The youngest coach in the area makes his coaching debut against the second youngest coach in the area. Youth will be served - let’s see what the Colts are all about.

The rest of the area.
