Hello,
I have a perf issue with an ex mining RX 580 2048SP and I try to find the right BIOS for it.
Also, it show "unknown" instead of WHQL so it's annoying and I had to trick WIndows into thinking the drivers are ok for the card (or the vbios is signed, i didn't quite understand it) using atikmdag-patcher-1.4.14
For the bios to flash I hesitate between the 2 following:
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/251789/251789 (weird TDP but the memory is the same as my card)
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/247182/247182 (HFB when my card says HF but, all the other info look good)
I don't want to brick it because I have no option to restore it for now.
The card I have has the following info (in attachment)
I also joined the current Vbios, which I think is a mining Vbios.
Also I don't quite understand the differences of TDP in these vbios.
Almost all the vbios I find for this card have as TDP 120 W but the card has more than 120 W afaik, in the database it says 150W
Thanks for your help

Pull the card apart and get a pic of a ram chip please
Thermal design power is what the heatsink is capable of handling, just means it might run warmer or fans run faster. If you are trying to game with a card used for mining you need a non mining bios

I cant tear it apart because I have given it to a friend that told me about these issues, so I'm trying to help that's why I mentioned I don't want to brick it otherwise he will be left without a working output.
But it says in the current vbios "MT51J256M32HF"
So it is what the card uses ?

But it's strange that the official page for the card says tdp is 150W and the vbios says 120W ?
It won't make the card thermal throttle?
Edit: I added the photo of the GPU-Z summary

We need the actual writing on the vram chips. Doesn't matter what vbios it has now if you want the correct one.

I get it, as a last resort I would ask him to unscrew the GPU and read the writings on the chip but my reasoning is that the GPU runs with HF in the vbios, so it must be HF.
I suppose that the guy that changed the vbios just copied the real vbios, changed the timings and the frequencies and re-flashed it so the real info about the chip type is already correct.
Putting HFB instead of HF would make the card non functional no? and vice versa

Yeah thats a mining bios.
Ok well let me find you 1
Ok try these with the correct clock speed for gaming. Also the tdp tend to be dependent on the ram used and heatsink used.
You cannot use HFB with HF, just like Samsung FC with FE etc, they are configured differently.

Thanks I'll update the topic when it's flashed.
I'll pick one randomly I guess as I don't really see the difference between them, except some power limits which I have no idea about.
Also I don't know why on this one for example the "max power limit" is lower than the "small power limit":

Alright, so I noticed the one you recommended me was a little bit overclocked so I took this one to be safe :
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/251789/251789
The PC was crashing over and over after the flash (that went flawlessly) so I told him to go in Windows recovery mode and used "amd cleanup utility" to completely remove the drivers.
Drivers reinstalled => GPU-Z shows "WHQL" instead of the shady "Unknown"
Memory timings are fixed, frequencies are also fixed.
PC seems to be working fine.
I'm just a bit confused about all those power limits, I hope the card will work fine anyways.
Thanks for your time and support

It's specified at the dev level, I provided the oc bios for a little more umpf, instead of 120W it was 125W. I'd suggest on any mining card to replace the thermal paste and possibly the thermal pads (use the correct thickness to avoid warping the card)
