This exists in office-culture as well.Can you do things on your team that nobody else can do? In this case, your VORP is high. Are you just another interchangeable part? Your VORP is low. What's your VORP? Are you more like a Jayson Tatum (irreplaceable) or a Marcus Smart (traded for Jrue Holiday and then the Celtics won a championship)!

    The #NFLDraft has become such an untapped PR goldmine. This year, Roman Wilson (Michigan) Xavier Legette (South Carolina) and Ladd McConkey (Georgia) were tapped to promote the new Six Star Pro Nutrition Protein Shake, in WK Kellogg Co's Froot Loops flavor, available exclusively at Sam's Club. This wasn't big money, nor did we have the budget for production beyond self-shot athlete social media ... but we did have 1HR of interview time with each athlete, which we've parlayed into 20+ stories, including syndication on some of the biggest websites on the planet.     Paris 2024 will be the creator Olympics and the IOC, NGB's and rights-holders don't really know what to do about it. 1) The cookie-cutter athlete narratives are boring this time around. Even the Biles / Richardson storylines will be your typical COPY/PASTE jobs if they win -- which is bad news for NBC. The men being able to compete in Artistic Swimming is cool. Fred Richard has swag. I'm convinced there is an under-the-table deal to get Caitlin Clark there, but watching the U.S. Women win by 50 isn't Iowa trying to win a Natty.2) The IOC / rights-holders cannot block competitive brands (like a Pepsi) from bringing creators to Paris and creating content. But after TOP sponsors spend billions on athlete contracts, ad buys and marketing rights, what's going to be left to prevent a guerrilla marketing ambush through influencers and creators?3) You are USA Gymnastics. Livvy Dunne is the most marketable athlete in your sport. She goes to Paris with NBC and outshines everyone there ... including Simone Biles due to follower count and the demographics of her audience. What do you do?4) You are NBC --- if you bring Livvy Dunne to join Alex Cooper and others in Paris, you can find new audiences, especially on streaming platforms like Peaco*ck. But you risk they, not the athletes, becoming the star of the show. You also have very sensitive relationships with the IOC and NGB's who won't like that becoming reality. Also, is Alex Cooper going to be "Wannabe Tom Rinaldi" Alex Cooper or Season 1 Call Her Daddy Alex Cooper talking about Olympic Village hookups --- which is the more compelling story.5) The biggest story of the Games is the "open footprint" Opening Ceremony amid the backdrop of increased terror risks, not to mention the events of 2015 on the back of everyone's mind. It's one of the biggest high-risk, high-reward bets in Olympic history. But it's also not a sporting event ... it's a news event.
