Diamondbacks 3, Giants 7: Bummer (2024)

As we learned last year, reviewing nine strains in nine innings is a thing of the past thanks to the implementation of the pitch clock. With the time between pitches reduced even further, I'd call that a nigh-impossible task. Before the game, I tried a Dusties Infused Preroll, in the Fruity Fizz variety. These are small (1/2 gram) concentrate infused flavored prerolled joints. Smoking one of these made me a little spacey and added to the difficulty of writing this recap. I would recommend these or some other flavored preroll to someone who doesn't like the taste, but make sure you go easy since they have 2-3 x the amount of cannibinoids of a regular non-infused preroll. As far as this specific variety goes, I'd say it's OKAY. There are better infused prerolls on the marker, like Jeeters.

Zac Gallen got the nod against giants pitcher Kyle Harrison. In the top of the first Harrison got Ketel Marte to fly out, struck out Corbin Carroll for two quick outs. Lourdes Gurriel Jr then hit a two-out stand up double down the third base line, past a diving Wilmer Flores. Christian Walker then singled down the first-base line, past LaMonte Wade Jr to score Gurriel and make the score 1-0 D-backs. Eugenio Suarez struck out to send it to the bottom of the inning.

Zac Gallen gave up a solo home-run to lead-off hitter Jung Hoo Lee, tying the score back up at 1-1. Lamont Wade Jr followed with a singled into left, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and then to third on a Jorge Soler single. Michael Conforto hit an infield pop-up to Eugenio Suarez for the first out of the inning. Wilmer Flores hit a sacrifice fly to center ro score another run, though Corbin Carroll made a nice a diving catch on the play. With the score now 2-1 Giants, Patrick Bailey singled to put another runner on, but Thairo Estrada struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the second, Randal Grichuk chopped a grounder to second for the first out, Blaze Alexander flew out to center for the second out, and Tucker Barnhart hit a swinging bunt ground out for the third out of the inning. In the bottom of the second, Gallen settled down for a quick inning, getting Mike Yastrzemski and Jung Hoo Lee to ground to second for the first and last out of the inning, and striking out former D-back Nick Ahmed for the second out of the inning.

In the top of the third inning, Kevin Newman grounded out, Ketel Marte singled to center, Corbin Carroll struck out on a foul tip, Lourdes Gurriel Jr singled to second to keep the inning going, with Marte advancing to third on a throwing error, but Christian Walker flew out to send it to the bottom of the inning.

LaMonte Wade Jr singled to center to lead off the bottom of the third, and Jorge Soler struck out for the first out. With Michael Conforto batting, LaMonte Wade Jr advanced to 2nd on another wild pitch, but Conforto flew out to center for the second out. A third wild pitch would advance Wade Jr to third base, and Wilmer Flores would draw a walk to put runners on the corners. Patrick Bailey would double to center, scoring Wade Jr to make it 3-1 Giants. Thairo Estrada then flew out to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Eugenio Suarez was hit by a pitch in the shin to lead off the inning Randall Grichuk flew out to center for the first out, Blaze Alexander doubled to center left, scoring Suarez to make the score 3-2. Tucker Barnhart struck out for the second out of the inning, but Kevin Newman came through with a single up the middle to score Blaze from second, tying the score up at 3-3. Ketel Marte walked, putting runners on first and second, and keeping the inning going for Corbin Carroll who unfortunately struck out looking to end the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Nick Ahmed hit a one out single, but Jung Hoo Lee lined out to Carroll in center, and LaMonte Wade Jr struck out.

In between innings, I tried Goldsmith Extracts Lemon Tree distillate, which i got free as part of 4/20 promotion at the dispensary earlier in the morning. Although I was satisfied with the strength and smoothness of this concentrate, I expected a much more lemony flavor out of this one. Still a quality product that I would recommend, though I'd stick with the Mimosa strain if you want a citrusy tasting concentrate.

In the top of the fifth, Ryan Walker relieved Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison. Gurriel, Walker, and Suarez would go down quickly on a strikeout, a fly out, and a second strikeout in that order. In the bottom of the fifth, Zac Gallen would get Soler to fly out and strikeout Conforto for the first out, but a Wilmer Flores single, followed by a monster Patrick Bailey HR would put the Giants back on top, 5-3. Gallen then struck out to Thairo Estrada to end the inning.

In top of the sixth the Giants seng out Eric Miller to relieve Ryan Walker, who got Grichuk to pop out, then Blaze and Barnhart to strike out for a quick inning. Bottom of the sixth, Joe Mantiply relieved Gallen. Mike Yastrzemski singled in a fly ball to right to lead off the inning. Nick Ahmed flew out to center for the first out, and Jung Hoo Lee hit into a double play. After a successful challenge, call was ruled a force out at second and the runner Lee safe at first. Matt Chapman, pinch hitting for Wade, singled off Bryce Jarvis who he was brought in to face. With runners on the corners, Chapman stole second, only for Jorge Soler to strikeout to end the inning.

Taylor Rogers relieved Miller in the top of the 7th, and made quick work of the D'Backs hitters, getting Newman to pop up for the first out, Ketel Marte to fly out to deep center at the warning track, Corbin Carroll to ground out to first. In the bottom of the 7th, Jarvis struck out Conforto and got Flores to ground out for the first two outs, and stranded Patrick Bailey at second after a ground rule double, thanks to a ground out by Estrada that nded the inning.

in the top of the 8th, Tyler Rogers replaced his evil twin Taylor Rogers, with no difference in results for the D-backs hitters. Gurriel lead off with a single, but Christian Walker hit into a double play, and Suarez was called out on strikes to send it to the bottom of the inning.

For those looking for a more obviously medically oriented Cannabis product, I picked up some Wyld brand's Strawberry flavored 200mg CBD: 10MG THC gummy edibles. These taste great, won't put you to sleep, and can be very helpful for pain and anxiety.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Miguel Castro relieved Jarvis, and the results weren't great. Castro gave up a leadoff single to Yastrzemski, who then advanced on an Ahmed sac bunt and scored on a Jung Hoo Loo double. With the Dbacks now losing 6-3, Chapman singled on a ground ball down the line, that was deflected by Suarez, putting runners on the corners for Soler. Soler would fly out, but Conforto would hit a two out single to make it 7-3. A passed ball advanced the runners 2nd and 3rd, but Flores flew out to end the 8th.

In the top of the ninth, Camilo Doval relieved Tyler Rogers. Doval would also make quick work of the Dbacks hitters, striking out Pavin Smith (pinch hitting for Grichuk), Blaze Alexander, and Joc Pederson (PH for Newman) to end the game. Overall gotta say I'm disappointed that the D=backs haven't won a weedcap since the original Nine Strains in Nine Innings article iirc.

Funnily enough, nowhere near as enthusiastic a Gameday Thread as last night, barely creeping over a hundred comments. Only one turned Sedona Red, and while that was some good analysis from Jack, it’s not really CotT material, so we’ll move rapidly on from this one. Series finale tomorrow, as the D-backs seek to split the series. Merrill Kelly takes the mound, with a 1:05 pm first pitch.
