When the munchies strike, these sweet & savory snacks gotchu.
As more and more states legalize marijuana for recreational use, there’s never been a better time to celebrate 420, or World Marijuana Day. Here at Delish, any kind of celebration means lots and lots of delicious food, and that’s even more true on 420. We’re kind of known for our wild recipes, and though we weren’t stoned when we invented them (or were we? We’ll never tell 😈), some of them are perfect for when you’ve got the munchies. From casseroles for a crowd to bite-sized apps you can eat a million of, we’ve got something here for however you’re celebrating. Check out our 30 stoner food ideas, you won’t want to survive 420 without 'em!
What is 420?
There’s tons of rumors and stories as to how April 20 became the cannabis connoisseur’s holiday, but most are either too convoluted to be reasonable, like the one saying it comes from Bob Dylan’s song “Rainy Day Women ♯12 & 35” (12x35=420), or are too easy to poke holes in, like the one saying it’s the CA penal code for a smoking infraction (not true!). The most credible seems to be a story of a group of friends who would meet to smoke weed every day at 4:20 p.m. One of whom went on to work with the Grateful Dead, and the rest is history.
Sweet or savory?
We don’t know about you, but when we’re craving one or the other, nothing else will do. With that in mind, we’ve included both options on our list here, perfect whether you’re a party of one or a ton. Craving something sweet? Try our best brownies (we bet these would be great with weed baked into them too), our Reese's nachos, our Milky Way hot mess, our puppy chow, or our Sour Patch grapes (wonderful if you’re trying to cut down on the processed sugar but still want to snack).
Leaning more savory? Check out our chili cheese dog casserole, our pull-apart cheeseburger sliders, our pizza casserole, or our nachos supreme if you’re serving a crowd, or our frito pie, our best-ever grilled cheese, our TikTok ramen, or our French bread pizza if not. Hot tip for all of these: most of these recipes are pretty easy, but we still recommend making them before you hit that joint or bowl. 😉
