Happier, Healthier, Holistic Grooming

Grooming is essential to the health and well being of our canine fur-children. When done on a regular basis by a caring groomer, your canine fur-child will feel relaxed, confident, clean and happy! That is why Magic and I added the service of holistic grooming.

The idea of our grooming facility is to keep our canine fur-clients stresses to a minimum. Our grooming facility is as quiet and serene as we can make and keep it. There are few, if any, clients waiting, either for their turn or for their pet humans to pick them up. We always request that appointments be made so that they are dropped off and picked up promptly, so as to avoid a long, stressful, days stay in a cage or a crate. When it is necessary to crate a client, we offer them a nice fluffy towel to rest on while waiting. This makes the grooming experience pleasant enough that each visit to Susan gets easier (she already has dogs that love coming to see her!). It also allows for individual attention to individual needs.

To keep the stresses and anxieties to a minimum for our canine fur-clients, we implement a number of stress reduction techniques. We diffuse essential oils made exclusively for canines by Grrroom Dog. We spray Bach Rescue Remedy, known for its immediate calming effect in any stressful situation, into the air between each canine client. We play classical music and use basic T-touch strokes and massage as well.

Our canine fur-clients are then treated to a bathing experience. Our hydro-massage system produces a gentle combing action spray of shampoo and water through a hand-held massage sprayer. The shampoo solution gently penetrates through the hair and down to the skin to remove dirt, debris, loose hair, dead skin and dander, while increasing blood circulation. It thoroughly cleans even the thickest coats. Hydro-massage bathing is extremely therapeutic and soothing to your canine fur-children. It relieves the stresses and strains of health compromised and older pets as well. Our canine fur-clients are loving the massage treatment!

For our shampoos, we have chosen what we feel are the most natural shampoos, opting most often for those which are lavender based. Lavender is known for its relaxing energy and is also incredibly healing. If your canine fur-child requires pure, natural shampoos, we offer Grrroom Dog Shampoos. This is the safest, healthiest, purest shampoo and conditioner line we have ever found! Made without artificial colors, synthetic perfumes, synthetic preservatives, or petroleum by-products, Grrroom Dog contains organically grown herbs, extracts, hydrosols and/or essential oils. It is as all-natural as any shampoo can be.

To further reduce stress, we do not muzzle or restrain unless it becomes absolutely necessary for our canine fur-client's safety and/or our own. Restraining only serves to make our canine fur-clients agitated and fearful. We have also equipped our grooming table with a support system. It includes waist supports to help our senior canine fur-clients, as well as those with compromised joints. This helps us maintain safety and comfort while grooming is in progress. Because of these techniques, our grooming environment is especially conducive to those canine clients who may have special needs, are geriatric, ill, disabled, deaf, blind or sensitive emotionally. We have the time and patience necessary for each individual canine fur-client.

Our canine clients are hand dried, so long as it does not cause undue stress. Hand drying maximizes hair and dander removal, as well as blowing out many small knots and mats. Canine clients may be cage dried when it is less traumatic, or some additional drying time is necessary.

Nails are thoroughly trimmed or grinded, not just tipped. Ears are cleaned and, when appropriate, flushed and hair removed. Anal glands are externally expressed.

Clipping and hand scissoring are done according to your request or to your canine fur-child's breed specifications. We reserve the right to refuse to de-mat any canine client for the sake of vanity. We feel that this is very painful and makes grooming very negative in their mind, and may make them hate the whole process. We suggest that a short trim be done and get the pet on a regular maintenance schedule as the coat grows back. For similar reasons, we do not hand strip either. Your pet's welfare and comfort is our main concern.

Our fees are based on the breed, size, condition of coat, and complexity of the style requested.

Consistency is very important. Your pet forms a relationship with their groomer and becomes comfortable in the environment and with the procedure.

Our stylist, Susan, is a compassionate, experienced professional. Her extensive grooming experience includes excellent hand scissoring skills and an uncanny ability to work with our “grooming-challenged” canine fur children. Susan is also a Reike practitioner, a Master Floral Essence practitioner and a Tellington Touch practitioner in training.

It is Susan's passion to keep our fur-children's grooming experience pleasant and comfortable. She upholds the charisma we have established as well as maintain a calm and healthy environment for our canine fur-children.
